Come As You Are—God’s Not Looking for Perfect

We live in a world that constantly pressures us to be perfect—to look right, act right, and have it all together. But Jesus flips the script. He’s not after the perfect version of you. He’s after the real you—the one that’s hurting, unsure, tired, and maybe even a little lost. The beauty of the Gospel is that you don’t have to fix yourself to come to God. He wants you just as you are.

In Matthew 11:28, Jesus says, “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Notice who He invites—the weary. The ones carrying too much. The ones who feel like they don’t have it all figured out. That’s the heart of God. He’s not waiting with judgment; He’s waiting with open arms and healing love. When you come to Him as you are, He doesn’t condemn—He restores.

So often, we wear masks in front of people, and sadly, even in front of God. But He sees past the surface. He sees the hidden pain, the quiet questions, the deep longing. And He says, “That’s the part I want to heal.” You don’t need to hide your flaws from Him. He’s drawn to your brokenness because it gives Him room to reveal His strength. His power is made perfect not in your perfection, but in your weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).

There’s no shame in being real before God. In fact, vulnerability is the gateway to healing. When you lay down the pressure to perform and come honestly—He meets you right there. He takes your ashes and gives you beauty. He takes your mourning and gives you joy (Isaiah 61:3). You don’t have to be cleaned up to be loved. You already are.

Your past doesn’t disqualify you. Your struggles don’t scare Him. He’s the Father that runs to the prodigal. The Savior who touched the leper. The Healer who embraced the broken. Wherever you are on your journey, He welcomes you. There’s nothing you’ve done that can cancel the love He offers.

So take a breath and come as you are. No more hiding. No more striving. Just come. Let His love wash over your insecurities, doubts, and failures. You are loved more deeply than you know. And you don’t have to wait until you’re “better” to receive it. You are seen. You are valued. And you are welcome—right now.
